How Many Twitter Followers Really, Truly “Follow” You?

Okay so we are on Twitter and we are almost to 300 followers but I wonder this…”how many people truly follow you on here?” Is it more for networking or just to see how many people you can get to follow you?

I think Twitter is a magnificent tool for networking, communication and sending out fast news. Like I said my question is just that how many people truly follow you and is it benefiting you? I have noticed that we have some random people or businesses following us, which is cool and I follow them because who knows, everyone has something great to say… I know I’m not a celebrity where people care about what I’m doing every minute but what do followers really want to read or get out of following you? I’m curious to what people think about this too.

Hope you enjoy the picture too, it’s our version of not-so-twittery people that know what the heck a “twitter follow” is.

Some Things That Are Just Pure Wrong or Priceless?

Okay, so one of my sisters sent me this picture the other day and I pretty much cringed at the site of it. As it’s absolutely hilarious, it’s also just so wrong lol. What would you think if you passed this dude on the street seeing him standing there?

Body Image in the Media: When is Skinny Too Skinny?

I have debated this issue since I was in college back in my mass communications class…body image and the media. I know people touch on this occasionally and talk about what they think about it and that it’s not like that, etc. I have been an athlete all my life and exercised even since I slowed down on sports after college, but I was never thin enough to look like some of those that are in the media.

Now some arguably are just born thin and are not able to gain weight, and I am not talking about those. What I am talking about is when a girl picks up a magazine whether she is in the mall, airport, or even at the dentist the first thing they see are photos of women who are stick thin. So many girls get the idea that they have to look a certain way for others to accept them. The media is creating this monster of a body image that makes girls look at every aspect of themselves and try to figure out what they can do to look like that girl on the front of the cover. I must have been in the 15% who didn’t care and just ignored it, which some girls choose to do. Okay this picture right here to the right is of a girl models legs, they are so thin compared to an actual normal set of legs. Can anyone say “please give the poor girl a cheeseburger?”

Today’s models weigh 23% less than an average woman. Media targets these images to be beauty and what beauty should look like.

Today, the stakes are high with magazine after magazine showing the best and worst bodies. People see this and think “oh my ga, I have to look like that or not like that!” We are consumed with knowing what to wear and how to wear it or if it will make me look sexier…. Here is part of the problem though, you ready for it?? They enhance these photos! I think people totally forget that they do this with magazine photos. They can add a few wrinkles here and there or shave off a few pounds with a click at the mouse. Technology is so advanced right now that you can do just about anything, and if you are still denying it, then keep living in that dream world.

Research shows that with viewing these photos of skinny models, etc. can cause depression, loss of self esteem, and a development of bad eating habits. A disturbing case study was done on the barbie doll’s proportions if she was to be a real life person, her back would be too weak to support the upper part of her body and not to mention her that her body would be too narrow to even contain half of a liver….

There have been some who have tried to buck the system and fight back but advertising says “this is in” and ultimately they are the ones who have the say in what gets published. They have had some issues produced with ones that come forward asking not to air brush them, etc. which is great! But like everything else, that fades in the background and you’re right back where we started with the issue.

I have seen and met some stars in the past few years, and I can tell you that not all of them look like they do in those magazines. One they look like human beings and they have their flaws as well, and you have to remember as well that they put their pants on one leg at a time like we do too. I just get so tired of seeing so many people, that are beautiful people do this to themselves and then have to seek help because they have gone too far or can’t admit they need help. I just wish that we could make a stand about it, but we all know how that goes. It’s like telling an ad agency to not do sexy ads, they will look at you and laugh and simply say “sex sells” and ultimately they are going with what sells and makes them money.

I know I will probably get both sides of comments from this, but just something that bugs me and don’t even get me started about men in the media, they are just as bad! Ah, another day, another post though.

Why Does the News Only Report Depressing News and Stories?

I use to watch the news when I came home from work to see what was going on in our community and around the world, but recently I have just started to switch it from the news over to Friends re-runs. As an American you want to know what’s going on and the events that are happening but when all you hear is the bad stuff, it can start to take a toll on you.

Our economy is not in the greatest shape right now and we all know that, but we don’t want to be reminded about it every single day. You may have had a great day and then come home, watch the news and you’re right back to being stressed and worried. We already have so many things we try to balance in a day with work, family, etc. that to add more stress is going to make people go over the top.

Even reporting all the crime and murders, we don’t want to hear about all of that unless it’s someone on the loose or could cause harm to the neighborhood. There are so many news stations today that it seems you hear the same stories over and over, so everything gets magnified. Despite all the bad things and bad economy we are experiencing, there are still good things that go on in our country. Now, more than ever we need to hear about the good news and good people out there. I think that news stations don’t want to report the good things, because it’s not as newsworthy and won’t create as much buzz for the ratings. Yes, I would so rather hear about what drugs a star is hooked on now and in rehab over someone helping out those in need….Please, some of the stars out there do those things so they can be back in the spotlight and you fall for it everytime.

At a time in my life I wanted to be in broadcasting and the news media, so I was told as I started taking the courses that when you are in front of the camera you need to be someone that the person in the home can relate to. You want to be like you are their friend who is talking to them face to face. I really thought I wanted to do this and be a part of it all, but as I soon learned how the media and news really functioned, I bolted out of there. It just seems that it has gotten worse as we go on, I didn’t want to be a part of that. Now, I’m not saying all are bad, yada yada, I’m just simply stating a fact that most news is the same thing: Depressing.

If you have some good news to report or that you think is newsworthy, write the news stations like they did to Brian Williams. It’s time we heard some good stories and that make us believe in our great country again.

How Bout Them Apples??

So now that we know we (America) own 80% of AIG, we have a larger say in what goes right? I say we send all of the ones involved of the company to a small island and see how long they last… It would be a great Survivor episode, none the less, haha.

StatBrain Website is Screwy and Ridiculous

Anyone heard of a site called Statbrain? Well if you haven’t here is a small breakdown…it’s a site that pulls in your site’s web stats and all your keywords, etc. But most sites you put in, come back with the results of “10 visits per day” Check out this blog post I found on it, pretty right on from what I found out as well. http://www.workathometruth.com/blog/2009/01/04/statbrain-lol/

So if you have a site that shows this in the results, don’t be discouraged it’s a hoax. The bad thing is, it will rank high in search engines for your site. But hopefully this clears up any questions you have.

Over moderated forums…

You know something that just absolutely gets me everytime with so many forums? All their rules they have about posting. The other day I was using a small business forum and I have made many posts on there in the past, well someone was asking a good place to go for link exchanges, etc. I replied saying how links are good, where to find them, etc. I also said that if they wanted to they could exchange links with our site that is free, so they could get a jumpstart. I never said my link or put it in the reply, I simply said just if they were interested to click the link in my signature. So I did not go aganist the rules and advertise my site or place my link there. Well not a day later I had a private message from one of the moderators saying that I was breaking the rules and they banned me for a certain time on the forum. After scratching my head for a second I thought you know, that is such a turn off to something when you followed the rules but were trying to help someone out, it’s like they bypassed the whole reply and saw I said to refer to the link below in the signature that they allow to be there in the first place. I joined a few more small forums and tried the same thing, and of course, I had some geek email me back saying I was banned.

Okay yeah it’s annoying for someone to come in and plaster their link all over a topic or post, that’s one thing but not when you are giving a great reply to help someone. All I got to say is “get a life.”

People Talking in Baby Voices

You know something that just honestly makes my skin crawl? When older people or anyone for that matter who talk in a baby voice to mainly get attention. Nobody wants to hear that, seriously.

There is a lady in my office that talks like that to the others in the office when she wants attention. I don’t think she really thinks anything is wrong with it or sees it as annoying. If you are one of these people, let me give you a little bit of advice…..Just Don’t.
